French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

These refrigerators stand out due to their distinctive features, like through-the-door dispensers and higher-end Ice makers.

We asked Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the right one. They evaluated the capacity of storage, layout, energy efficiency, and other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As the name suggests, the GE Profile series is targeted at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge features into their kitchen. This fridge has them all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is a premium, I expect higher quality.

This fridge is a good option, despite the slight blip. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Additionally, it can hold a decent amount of frozen foods as compared to similar models.

The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about par for a french door refrigerator with ice maker in bottom freezer door refrigerator that costs this much. It has a decent-sized refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. But it's not the biggest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create a customized storage arrangement for whatever you have to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is good-looking, too. The LED lighting adds an appealing touch. The in-door storage bins have a third shelf which can be folded down to store tall items. The drawers come with temperature controls, so you can set them to Beverage, Meat, or Deli settings. The drawers are easy to shut and open, but I found the textured plastic coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and it has numerous options for customization. It also sends you notifications when the door is left unlocked, when the freezer or fridge needs to be defrosted, and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice to have GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill which is a feature that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to set how many cups they want to disperse. It does have a countdown feature on the fridge display to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as effective as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Created to appear as a seamless element of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is an eye-catching piece. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment that helps keep vegetables and fruits fresher longer and dual compressors to ensure maximum food preservation. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and makes the shape of a pyramid using only water. This refrigerator is ideal for a single household or kitchenette that needs a built-in appearance and top-of-the line food preservation.

This fridge was rated the top in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and never fluctuating by more than a fraction a degree--this is key to preventing freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the initial temperature within an hour and remained at that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch has a reputation for premium appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to monitor and control your fridge from your tablet or smartphone. The fridge is expensive, however it has top-quality features and functions for the price.

It is crucial to be aware of the limitations of your fridge. You may need to get creative with tall items because the fridge has a small shelf space. The shelves aren't spillproof and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp items. The trays are easily removed from the fridge. However, they should be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great option for those who need lots of space within a small frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has the standard French-door layout, with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door as well as two rows of shelves that capture spills and a set sleeker drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give taller items more space. There's also a full-width storage drawer for products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker, making it easy to transfer the frozen ice whenever you need it. The freezer also features clever design features, like sliding drawers that help you organize your items. It also has a large bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food items and an additional ice storage bin.

Smart InstaView panel is a cool feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting, and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a great way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't improve the efficiency of the fridge. This fridge took longer to defrost food and chill it than some others we test. This is probably due to its bigger capacity.

Another issue with this refrigerator is its doors. They have sunken handles on the front that allow smaller people to pull them open from the bottom, however they're not easy for taller people to steer closed without slamming them. It would have been better if they had handles mounted on the front.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a ideal option for those looking to combine the advantages of a french style fridge freezer non plumbed-door fridge's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. Its capacity is above average for counter-depth models, and it cools evenly. It's also a bit less than the top counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which helps make it a desirable choice.

If you're looking for a French door fridge that doesn't break the bank and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a minimalist design that isn't as striking visually as some of the competition however it comes with enough features that make it a great option. Its most notable characteristic is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker and a water dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which is situated above the two crisper bins, is a nice feature. The drawer allows you to divert part of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, meaning you can keep food items that need extra attention. You can alter this feature by using the slider located on the outside of the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the generic settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my tests, I discovered that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees. This is a great performance however it doesn't rank among the best in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's outside is made of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body with a "smudge-proof" finish. It does a great job of removing streaks and fingerprints even when compared to the shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
